The Fyxx hardly needs my promotion, but as a place dear to my young, girl-talk heart, I must. Ebony and I discovered The Fyxx in our teenage years when we were falling in love with the Exchange District and would spend half our lives wandering around the second-hand stores.
Unfortunately, neither of us are big coffee fans, so I can't give you a coffee review. Though, the word on the street is that their coffee is nothing spectacular.
However, The Fyxx also offers salads, sandwiches, soups, and a large assortment of desserts, as well as other beverages.
I absolutely adore their Caesar salad, playfully entitled Hail Caesar! I argue that The Fyxx's Caesar salad is the best in the city, and so far, I have not tasted one better. The key is their house dressing, a generous sprinkling of real parmesan (none of that powder stuff), and a slice of lemon. I have dreamt for many years of landing a job at The Fyxx to steal their Caesar dressing recipe, but, alas, I have never gotten around to it. The dressing is very creamy and full-flavoured and just garlicky enough for my tastes. They also offer a take on Greek salad and market salad.
They have a huge variety of sandwiches, from wraps to paninis to corn bread. The sandwiches often contain surprising twists on old classics. For instance, you might encounter some peach salsa or pesto mayo. I would recommend the Hercules, which has a delightful mixture of spiced capicollo, genoa salami, sliced roma tomatoes, diced red onions, feta cheese, baby spinach, and pesto mayonnaise, all on a panini bun.
Their desserts are always tempting and rich. This coffeehouse is also one of the rare ones offering wholewheat cinnamon buns, which I always find so much better than ones made of white flour.
And finally, The Fyxx makes a great Italian soda. They have tons of different flavourings and will top off your soda with whipped cream free of charge.

I've always enjoyed my experience at the FYXX in exchange dist. However, the location on Dakota is not always "up to parr" Just today I had a less than enjoyable one. I approached the counter to have the worker on the other side just stare blankly at me. I didn't respond. I always wait for the person providing the service to greet me. He did not and after a long awkward silence said "what can I get for you?" Not customer oriented at all. While waiting I noticed how dirty the area looked behind the counter. There were dirty dishes and cups stacked up high and the counter top and sink looked filthy. I was served my latte in a paper cup after notifying the server that I would be consuming my beverage in the restaurant. There was no apology for the obvious lack of clean glass cups. All in all the male server seemed very unprofessional and didn't seem to happy to be there. I must say however, that my experience with the day staff during the week is much better.
Wanted to leave a complaint on the Fyxx's website, but saw nowhere to lodge such a thing.
First of all I think its funny that you love the Fyxx's Ceasar salad because it is the one dressing they actually do not make themselves. Yup. thats right, its right out of the bottle. Same with their greek salad dressing. The rest they make themselves though. As for the Fyxx on Dakota, I used to work there and can understand the whole, not wanting to be there and lack of clean cups. Because of the size of the place they were only allowed to have 2 workers on at a time, and well basically one mans the till while the other is catering the whole resaurant. Not to mention the random swarms of people that would all come in at once and would completely throw us back. I honestly would have liked working there if we were allowed more employees but it was definitely too much work for 2 people for when there were rushes, and then having to do all the restocking and complete clean down of everything at the end of the night. Gah.. stupid Fyxx on Dakota, anyways.. now that i dont work there im glad its there though so i dont have to go all the way downtown for their food.
